 Wednesday 9th August, Men’s social bowls afternoon saw three rinks in use, consisting of two Triples matches and a Pairs game. We have been so lucky in the weather over the past month or so and Wednesday was no different. With the Green running like magic the men thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon’s play. The results of the three matches were as follows:

Friday 11th August. Men’s mixed social bowls. Once again, a beautiful day with a fabulous running Green. Just a pleasure to play on, thanks Warren.With the Two Bowls Triples Tournament on the following day just three rinks had the benefit of such a lovely afternoon and they consisted of three games of Triples, one utilising a swinging lead. The results of the three matches were as follows:

Saturday 12th August S.G.M.B.C’s TWO BOWL TRIPLES TOURNAMENT:With a full Green and teams from, Grafton, South Ex Services, Wooli, Yamba, Maclean and of course our own home teams; the Green was awash with colour and good natured rivalry. Three rounds in total, two played in the morning, a break while the men enjoyed an excellent Bbq and salad lunch, then back for the final round in the afternoon. The weather with hardly even a breath of wind and such very pleasant temperatures couldn’t have been better if we’d ordered it and the Green once again was just great. At the end of the day, after competition prizes had been distributed and everyone was relaxing with a well earned drink the results were announced and were as follows:
First place and Tournament winners title went to J Nash, D Johnson & G Scott of Maclean MBC. Congratulations guys.
Second place went to S Bridle, G Kilduff & L Preston of South Ex Services MBC while third place went to T Johnson, G Johnson & B Johnson of Maclean MBC

Saturday 29th July, Men’s Major Minor Tournament: Great day with 24 teams from the various clubs taking part. Thanks to our neighbours South Ex Services for allowing us the use of their Green to make up the rinks required. Much appreciated. Three rounds were contested with some amazing bowls played in a great spirit of friendly rivalry between the Clubs. A break for lunch and then the third game rounded out the day. Results in, Maclean came out overall winners for the day, followed by a South Ex Services team in second place and our own South Grafton pair claimed third spot.

Sunday 2nd July, Fun day for the first time and the games for this were played out a couple of rinks along from championship rounds.With holidays on just two games of Triples fronted to kick off the fun day and though the numbers were much less than hoped for, it was as the name suggests a lot of fun. Prizes for winners and runners up as well as novelty end prizes kept the bowlers on their toes encouraging some really nice draw or conversion shots; while two rinks along the men were focused on their championship matches, namely another round in the B Grade singles and the final of the 2017 SGMBC Triples. The results from all were as follows:
SGMBC B Grade Men’s singles round:
Rink (1). M Revell  d  P Chevally 31 – 27 A closely fought out game. Great bowling Mark & Peter.
SGMBC 2017 Men’s Triples Final: 
This game was magic with the lead consistently swapping to and fro. There were lots of fabulous shots played from all players and neither team gave an inch until the final end where Bernie Kowal’s side claimed victory, the game and the title of Triples champions for 2017 by one shot.  Thoroughly enjoyable match and great to watch with everyone on the edge of their seats.

Well the weather could hardly be blamed for the small turnout; a beautiful afternoon and a great running Green was just waiting those looking for a top afternoon’s bowling. Friday 26th May Mixed social bowls afternoon: With many players away attending the funeral of South Grafton member Pam Lollback’s son Neville; just three rinks made use of the great weather to enjoy a social game. A sad week, our members attended the funerals of Joyce McLennan a longtime women’s club member, Ivan Smidt, a former member of the men’s club and Neville Lollback, the son of women’s club member Pam Lollback. Our sympathies go to the families at this sad and difficult time

A well known and well liked bowler, Sep is our eldest male playing member and still competes at both  social and championship levels . Our best wishes to Sep on reaching this very special milestone from all of us at the SGBC.

Sunday 23rd April, Mixed Barefoot bowls: Two games of social bowls today and three games of Men’s B grade singles.

  The big drawcard however was the Men’s Championship Pairs final. A great face off between four strong men players it promised to be a top game and didn’t disappoint from go to whoa. “Dan the man”  Barker would appear to be heading for a grand slam this 2017 season; as together with his partner John Betts he played a well thought out and exciting match to eventually earn the title convincingly over opponents Squizzy Taylor and Lee Bond. Though Squizzy and Lee played well, John was on fire with his draw bowling and Dan just picked up from where he left off last week when he took out the Major singles. Great game guys, so enjoyed watching. The results from all Sunday matches as follows:

Friday 31st March, Men’s mixed Barefoot bowls afternoon: Three rinks this afternoon, one of them hosting the Men’s singles final making it real hard to concentrate on your own game if you were social bowling.

Rink (1). SGMBC Singles final:  Dan Barker  d  Nathan Wilson 31-11.

Congratulations to Dan 2017 SGMBC Singles champ; who once again showed us what a beautiful draw bowler and excellent tactician he is. Congrats also to Nathan, a new young bowler who did well to reach the final. There was however no taking it away from Dan who in sparkling form well and truly showed his class.

Though overcast the Weather Gods remained with us and all three games were completed. Results of these were as follows:

Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th March,
South Grafton played host to Tenterfield Travelling Bowlers. With 22 bowlers and 2 non players travelling from Tenterfield for the weekend;
it was a pleasure to meet them both on & off the Green. Two lovely days were spent bowling, enjoying morning teas, (scones jam & cream thanks to Betty Essex & Mavis Mulligan), and lunches courtesy of the Events committee. Sunday afternoon with competition prizes drawn and last drinks over; the Tenterfield contingent headed for home vowing to repeat the very pleasant exrcursion in the not too distant future.Saturday our Men’s Grade Four Pennant side were at home to Iluka and then again on Sunday to Maclean
